The firehole doors. The left hand one shows the outside, i.e. footplate side of the door and the right hand one shows the fire side. Note that the doors are hollow. An opening can be seen at the bottom of the left hand door and at the top of the right hand door can be seen a crescent shaped cut out. The purpose of the hollow is to allow an amount of secondary air to always be supplied to the top of the fire - 4 Feb 02.

The blow down valve lying on its side. This item is usually hidden from view under the footplate on 9466 - 4 Feb 02.

The top half of the backhead after removal of all fittings and cladding. The fittings from left to right would be gauge glass, regulator, combined steam and vacuum brake and on the extreme right the blower valve. At the very top of the picture can just be seen the mounting for the fountain - 4 Feb 02.
