2001 was the last year that the locomotive was in service before being withdrawn for overhaul due to the expiry of its 7 year boiler ticket. The overhaul, again to MT276 Railtrack main line standards, is planned to take approximately 2 years. The loco is thus unlikely to see action again until the beginning of the 2004 season. Visits to a number of railways happened in 2001 and it was a very busy year for both the loco, its crew and the cleaning cloths.

9466 completed her Spring visit to the West Somerset Railway where she ran during the Spring Gala from 30 March to 1 April, 14 to 16 April and 5 to 7 May. On behalf of everyone involved with the loco may I thank everyone at the WSR for their friendliness and helpfulness during our visit.

9466 left Bishop's Lydiard on 8 May and returned to the Bucks Railway Centre.

Once back at Quainton, 9466 operated on the following dates:- 13 May, 20 May, 27 May (half day only), 28 May, 3 June, 17 June, 24 June. The loco left Quainton on 3 July bound for the Battlefield Line where she was unloaded the following morning.

9466 completed another successful visit to the Battlefield Line. Click here for a few words. The locomotive was moved to Bishops Lydiard on 10 September.

9466 was invited back to the West Somerset for their Autumn Gala from 14-16 September 2001. The visit went very well. Thanks to all you good folks of Somerset for the invite to go back and pound up Crowcombe Bank again! On 17 September 9466 was loaded onto a lorry for the second time in eight days and moved to Kidderminster.

9466 attended the SVR Autumn Gala on 21-23 September 2001. Thanks are due to the guys at Bridgnorth and Bewdley for the invite. The loco operated on a variety of trains from unfitted goods to local passenger to nonstop express trains. The final crowning glory to a second period of operation in preservation came with a double headed run from Bewdley to Bridgnorth with WR 0-6-0PT 1501. This was the first time that two Hawksworth designed pannier tank locomotives have operated in this manner in preservation. See gallery page for pictures.

The locomotive was stopped for routine overhaul at the end of its rostered turn at Bridgnorth on 23 September 2001. For further news click the Current News link below.
